As for Lovux' current obsession:
Captain Harlock.
THE space opera of all space operas to ever space opera.
Okay, I'm only halfway through the series, but I can hardly imagine the
pure quality dropping as rapidly as it does in shounen series. If you like animes with actual stories (not just characters fooling around), check this one out! If anything, this is one of the series that helped modern anime becoming what it is today.
A real classic, in other words.
And the titular main character is really, really hawt too. (Man, I SO want to draw fanarts of the series... if it wasn't for my arm that hasn't gotten any better. Just heal already, damnit! The drawing abstinence is killing me!)... In fact, scratch this whole Captain Harlock thing as being Lovux's sole obsession. I'd rather say, most of Matsumoto Leiji's works. The first anime I ever saw was Starzinger, and I have also seen Galaxy Express 999 and Space Symphony Maetel. While the latter series was more of a snorefest than anything else, the other experiences I've had with Matsumoto Leiji so far have been beyond good. Deep characterizations and stories that never jump the shark seem to be that man's specialty. After finishing Captain Harlock, I really, REALLY want to see Queen Emeraldas and Queen Millennia, but I can't find them subbed anywhere. Well, I
did find ten episodes of Queen Millennia, but that series' got forty episodes or something, and I want more than just a tease.
Come on, Live-eviL, you guys are one of the best fansubbing teams out there, make us fans of old-school anime happy and finish Queen Millennia!!
As for music obsessions, we have
Creature Feature. Heard them the first time in one of Nostalgia Critic's videos, and a friend helped me deepen by interest in them. Here are some songs by them:
The Greatest Show UnearthedA Gorey DemiseAim for the HeadOh yeah, and
this little gem too. Lovux's been driving her classmates mad by humming it 24/7 for weeks....
because it just won't leave your head! Edit:Okay, finished the Harlock series.
IT WAS AWESOME. My GOD, what a series! The story was well-thought, nicelly paced and
consistently good throughout the whole run! The characters were deep and (more or less
everyone) went through believeable developments! The action scenes were cool and made me sit at the edge of my chair with a beating heart!
It was so good! And the main character himself!!! Harlock is nowhere even remotely close to the ordinary fanservice bishounen stereotype, he's a character whose manliness and badassery is completely out of this
universe. Harlock is
the original GAR. Archer and Kamina looks up to him as their rolemodel and dream of being jsut like him. Kenpachi checks his closet before he goes to bed just to make sure Harlock is not there. When Chuck Norris tells his kids horror stories, he tells them of Harlock.
He is THAT awesome, manly and badass.
End of mthfckn discussion.
Since there's loads of different series' and movies featuring Harlock, there's obviously much more than only the series I just finished that is waiting for me, but a problem with this new obsession is what I already mentioned in this post - lack of subtitles. I want to see Arcadia My Youth (both the movie and the TV series) and The Endless Odyssey, but I can only find the latter completed.
As if waiting for more chapters of the Get Backers manga was not enough, now I'll have to keep my eyes open for everything concerning the GARlock himself. But at the same time, it's good - A rabid, sudden obsession is exactly what I need right now, so that I'll (hopefully) be able to get away from GB for a while and thus avoid spoiling myself by accident.
And yes, Lovux is fully aware that there's
no continuity or consistent character backgrounds between these different series and movies
whatsoever. She looks forward to see the different versions of her new favourite characters.
