That's why I love the early part of Tenipuri but hate the later portion. The early part of the series is quite good and all the moves (those that came from the manga) are either real moves or based off of real moves. Sure they're flashier and they suffer from "shonen action syndrome" in how they are portrayed but much still operates in the realm of reality.
The later portion they start making stuff up at the drop of a hat. . . .
Cyclone smash Invisible swing Three Eijis Boxing tennis (seriously, this doesn't work at all)
To be honest, the sport that I find compliments tennis teh best (and vice versa) is Fencing. Mostly due to the fact that the footwork is so similar.

hm...never fenced (seriously) before. i guess their footwork would be similar. =P oh yeah...boxing tennis. *snorts* i could see that a boxer would have an incredibly powerful swing, but his position and technique wouldn't work for tennis. -_-; Konomi-sensei went crazy! XDDD

I play both, the reason Fencing works so well is that the footwork relies on fast strafing skills and making the most out of your zone of attack with speed and various leg manuvers. All these manuvers transfer very well into tennis. the hand movements save for quick wrist control to small levels of motion isn't as usefull.

LOL. wrist in tennis = break your wrist
i play tennis and badminton. =P badminton is all about the 'snap' of the wrist. XD i assume fencing is the same...

fencing. I love fencing <3 <3 I miss fencing. I should really go back and do fencing next year....x____x Yeah, fencing is all about the motion of your wrist most of the time apart from the footwork. Parrying and counterattacking...*in her own little land*

My school never taught fencing either. I took it at a rec center. My college has a team but their practice scheduels conflicted with my courses.
So I one upped them and now I study European dueling. None of the dumbed down sports stuff, I study the actual art of dueling to the death.

Nobody teaches it nowadays save for schools with combat courses. Good luck finding those, to the best of my research there are only three in the United States alone. Most of what I learn comes from books and research papers. Course I've had my fun experience when I used to take fencing.
*I'm the last one to walk through the door to suit up* "We seem to be out of masks for some reason" "Huh?" "Well, you've been here a while, you're careful, so we'll trust you to fence today without a mask*
Nothing will improve your defense in fencing like not having any gear to protect your head from a stabbing.
