They Killed it

That's right. Toonami Jetstream started two days early (i think so..) and the first dubed episode of Prince of tennis is out.

They Killed it. Its as bad as we thought it was gonna be...worse I think.

but its a good laugh...that is if your ears don't fall off first.

Toonami Jetstream is only avalile to people in the US, but some one did rip the episode so its floating around Live journal now. I can get a hold of it if anyone wants it.

Haven't watched it, but I expected them to kill it anyway. So yeah...expectations were met. And they failed.

My friend said it was ok, she's seen/heard worst dubbings(omg like Naruto which makes my ears bleed) I heard Ryuuzaki-sensei's voice was horrible, i have yet to watch it myself, mostly fear of dying from loss of blood from my ears '_'

Yeah naruto was pretty bad....>.> makes me wonder how Bleach will turn out when they air it this fall....T___T maybe I don't want to know. But yeah, I will always like my subs....^^;;

For some reason, whenever I heard Ryuuzaki's voice, I kept thinking of an old version of Miss Yukari from Azumanga Daioh (yeah, I watch that dubbed every now and then. o.o Only, Miss Yukari had more varying tones).

When I saw it..I really didn't like it..especially since Ryoma doesn't say "Mada Mada Dane"...I was very disappointed..very!!I'm scared to know how Tezuka,Fuji,Kawamura,Kaidou,and especially Inui's voices will turn out..they better not give Inui a nerdy voice...

Is it true Momo has the same voice as Balmung, Asuma, Takeru, Asuma (different one, like, Hokage's son one), Conrad and some dude called Musica? o.o It's just... I want to see what that's like. Asuma = Momo? Asuma's like, 250% smarter than Momo, skinnier than Momo, and mecha-pwnage than Momo. o-0 And I really hope they made his voice more like Balmung than Takeru. x.x

I actually kinda like Ryoma's voice and Momo's, but everyone elses sucks total ass.

Episode 3 (when it comes out) should give us the voices of the rest of the regulars for review.

I wouldn't say that they killed it.

The Opening: Terrible. Nothing but a bunch of random shots form all the different openings and ending sloppily thrown together in a half-assed fashion with little or no coherence and poor flow. ... With lame music.

Horio's voice is actually far less annoying then the original Japanese.
Katsuo's voice isn't too bad, but the other freshmen sounds like an old woman trying to sound like a kid.
Sakuno & Tomo: Painful to listen to.
Ryuzaki sounded too young.
Momo's voice is a little on the annoying side.
Ryouma: While the actor has the apathetic thing down OK, the over all voice sounds too old and not really fitting of the character.
I actually really like Arai's voice and thought it was really fitting of the character.

The over all quality of the voice acting/casting is mediocre at best (but I've heard worse). The pronunciation of the Japanese is probably the worst thing about this dub. Saying "Anoue" instead of "Inoue" is really just a lack of knowledge, training, poor directing, and (in my minds eye) having complete apathy to produce a good product and no drive to do something well. Most of the time I feel as though I can see the actors doing these voices behind the charters.

The translation remains pretty faithful to what is actually being said. They didn't even use overlays to replace Japanese writing with English. Nor were there any edits. And I give them props for changing the Japanese names of tennis shots to the appropriate English names.

The Ending:.... Much like the opeing... Complete crap and utterly boring. It held none of the excitement of the original first ending.

Personally I think most everyone is overeacting on the matter. They didn't kill it by any means. At its worst you could call it a bad dub but that's it. The context of the episode was 100% ok, they didn't change anything. Hell, they didn't even use overlays over the japanese text or change yen to dollars.

The new opening and ending are lackluster but i'm used to this from Viz. At least I know taht the dvds will contian the regular songs. But the background music was left intact. Some of the voicing needs work but others are allright.

Horio is far less annoying to me now than the nasal voice he had before.
