He is a Seigaku member as much as Tezuka and WANTS TO BE THE FCKN PILLAR OF SUPPORT. (Slapping can hurt. And I am not even refering to the actual phisical hurt. Emotional hurt and HUMILLATION count for me. And psycological is still violence. Ryoma is so proud you know that has hurten him deeply) ...All right. Ryoma was acting childish and pouting because he wasn't chosen for the team that would go against the Americans. The thing is, he can't be chosen for everything (none of us can). Tezuka was disgusted with his carefree attitude about playing Kevin and that's why he slapped him and told him that he should now earn his reserve spot on the team. < But that's just an example of his 'view on justice'. But I agree with him on that one. You have to be serious about playing an opponent. If you're acting carefree during a tennis game, then it means you're not taking the game seriously. < And that's something the players should do. And if you can't even take one game seriously, you're not fitting to be a Pillar of Support. (Since I think Tezu would've given the position of the Pillar to Fuji if he had always known how to play seriously.) ------------------- "Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice." "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." ^ Two very important proverbs IMO. If he doesn't let go of his pride sooner or later, someone's going to defeat him in tennis... and BAD.

Nor Seigaku or Hyoutei can let go of their pride. I mean for being in those teams you have to have pride. And I dont think pride in a sense where you can be happy for what you did (acomplished) or happy to have shered that time and place with your team mates and feel they are incredible is wrong. Ryoma is too proudful, I seriouly get that. And he wasnt right at that time. Really wasnt (not that I will ever say so this often again *laughs* kidding =P) But if he had to loose to Kevin and SEE Kevin being rightfully angry at him for that and realize his mistake without hitting THAT would have been a good leader. A good leader lets other people make their own mistakes sometimes, because he understands he might not be right, even if he is a 100% sure. I rather Ryoma grow independant and strong with his own mistakes and not foolishly needy of Tezuka guidance when he IS the pillar of support. Ryoma has what it takes and I will defend that idea for ever.
Besides he wasnt chosen becuase TEZUKA didnt see him fit and the rest of the authorities agreed. He acted REALLY mature after that and apologized and GOT ON HIS KNEES to beg for the honour to match Kevin. And I am happy he did that, letting go of his pride. But I also thing that could have also gotten resentful towards Tezuka or something. nd then he would have just turned more prideful. So I thank the filler maker for realising Ryoma is a GOOD kid with the right set of values and he is MATURING. All I am seying is there were better ways than that slap. Ways a good leader (and I reluctantly admit Tezuka most of the time is) would have taken. Thre were BOTH mistaken, but while Ryoma had to admit it and fix it, Tezuka went out unscratched by it thinking he is always right.
I cant see Fuji as a pillar of support ad I dont think Tezuka can either. He doesnt have what it takes, and doesnt want to lead. He goes his own way, doesnt follow either. But to be a pillar of support the drive is a MUST and Fuji lacks that dirve cept when people he loves are hurt. A real leader must take drive out of thin air.

Hm... d'ya think Aka-chan will become the Pillar of Rikkaidai then? He does have some leadership qualities... and I suppose his attitude reminds me a bit of Sanada for some reason.

I think he definitely could if he comes to care more. I dont find him caring enough. But I do believe in people growing up in company of friends and team mates. But on the other hand, Rikkaidai is not the loveliest place to learn about love is it? I am trying to say I think he could. But he is still mada mada dane-

Hiyoshi is going to be the Pillar of Hyoutei. No doubt about it. (Choutarou is too naive and innocent to lead.) ...I suppose Chou being there might make Hiyo care about others more... that silver-haired kid has that "I will make you nice by being nice" aura around him, after all.
