Well, it doesn't need to be like, 3 seconds ago. A couple of hours ago is as good as "just now".
I just ate:
"Cold smoked" salmon.
"Hot smoked" salmon.
Oh, and Finnish blood pancakes that you can buy straight from food shops (there's a company that makes them). X3 I LOVE THEM.
I can't believe it's considered a delicacy in North America (even due to its expensive price). o.O It's like, normal for us Finns to eat that. I mean, my DAD can smoke salmon if he has to!
PS. The salmon I ate was smoked by my Dad's cousin. X3 He smokes lots of salmon, and I mean LOTS, and then packs and sells it. Dad always gets quite a lot of both cold and hot smoked salmon from him. X3
PPS. I've even eaten bear, moose and deer sometimes. Duck, grouse, hare, reindeer, flounder, turbot, European plaice, whiting, Atlantic cod, roach (it's the FISH! XD), Atlantic herring, pollack, sardines, Arctic char, common sole, carp bream, rainbow trout, common carp, northern pike, grayling, European perch and pheasant, too. But the game food only after someone we know has been hunting and given some of his game to us. Deer is especially good. (Holy crap, moose meat is SPICY! >.< And bear is even worse!)
Plus I've eaten escargot three times up to now (first time when I was 13). Escargot are snails cooked in their shells, with garlic and parsley butter. They're GOOOOOOD.
PPPS. I've even made European perch in lemon sauce, all by myself. X3
And I've held a living pike in my hand by the tail. Holy crap it scared me when it started to squirm! XD It got away from me and fell to the ground, but I quickly caught hold of the tail again and threw the fish into the bucket where I had taken it from. XDDD
It was a BIG pike, too... the length was about 100 centimeters (1 meter) and the weight was about 8 kilograms, I think.
Btw, how many of you have held a living, big, toothy and still energetic pike or other fish in your hand? XP
...OH! I've also held living crayfishes in my hand by their backs! X3 They have rather nasty scissors, don't they? XP They have so much strength that they can bend an iron sheet with them... (One of them even nibbed the dog of my Dad's friend in the nose.) Good thing they can't bend their scissors enough to nib when people hold them from their backs...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
*loves sea food, pea soup, borsch and mushrooms* You know, I can even eat those canned champignon mushrooms straight from their cans. XP And mussels... yum, mussels straight from their cans...
My favorite food EVER has to be octopus. Anything goes - kalamari (fried octopus), grilled, you name it.
I've even eaten really exotic sea food dishes abroad... think Atlantic catfish (in Portugal.), the angler (a really, really ugly fish. In Portugal.), swordfish (in Italy) and giant prawns (aka scampi, in Italy).
And good old Finnish pea soup. X3 My friends hate it, but it and borsch are my favorite soups. (Borsch is Russian, btw. But you can still buy a soup mix version of that in Finland.)
...Btw, I suppose you guys haven't eaten that much fish in your whole life, huh? Or even that many 'exotic' dishes? (Well, exotic where YOU come from, but not where I come from....) Of course, since Lovux and I are practically neighbors, we've pretty much eaten the same stuff, right? I don't think Sweden is that different from Finland.
Btw, my Dad is a fish freak. I think it was his freakiness that got ME into fish, too!
Since... when I'm in Finland, I usually eat anything. But when abroad, I mostly eat sea food and birds. ...Does that sound weird?
And when abroad, I usually end up choosing the most exotic-sounding dishes when eating out. ...And believe me or not, MY choices have always been the BEST-TASTING, too! ALWAYS! O.O It's like, a rare talent or something. "Raiden, the woman who is able to choose the best dish from a menu."
