Yeah so I just wanted to see what you guys thought of my little short story thingy I had to do for school. It's been a while since I've done one. Not like anime related but my friend thought I made like an anime sort of story when he read my character descriptions. XD Well try to enjoy my sucky writing please!!
Boom!
A loud crashing noise rang out through the village. Hurried footsteps rushed to the scene to see what happened. A man cleared his throat and the other villagers instantly moved aside to let him through. Once the man saw what had happened he shouted at the top of his lungs, “HARU HITSUGAYA!!!!!!!!!!â€
A young boy snapped his eyes open and leaned up from his position against a tree. He knew that voice only too well and knew what he was in for; a small yowl beside him announced that his companion had also awakened from his nap. The boy shifted onto his side and petted the Siberian tiger beside him as it began to purge himself of the dirt and other things that had caught on to his fur while it had slept.
“Well Byako, looks like the mayor is looking for us again. We better go before we get in more trouble than we’re already in.†the boy said as he stood up and stretched.
The tiger complied with another yowl and padded beside his master. The boy grabbed the wooden sword lying down next to where he layed only moments ago and reattached it to his left hip, hopped aboard the tiger’s back, and the two made their way back to the village.
By the time they arrived a few of the other villagers were trying to appease the mayor who was fuming angrily. As soon as he caught sight of the boy and the tiger enter the crowd; he stormed over to the duo and held the boy up by his shirt.
“I don’t know what you’re playing at Haru, but this is getting out of hand!! One more of your pranks and your out of here,†the mayor snarled into his ear.
“But I didn’t do anything sir…†Haru whispered quietly.
“Really? Then who did this?â€
“I don’t know, but it wasn’t me.â€
“………I’ll let you off the hook this time but anymore and you are leaving this village!†the mayor snapped and dropped Haru onto the floor and dismantled the crowd.
Haru stood up and dusted his orange pants and black shirt off. He closed his eyes sighed while lifting his right hand up and combed through his spiky, bleach, white hair. Byako nudged his head into Haru’s left hand and tried to console the boy to tell him it was alright.
Haru opened his molten, gold eyes looked into Byako’s own bright, yellow ones and gave a small smile, “Thanks boy, I’m okay now.â€
Soft footsteps hit the ground lightly and Haru turned around when a shadow enshrouded him. A boy only a few inches taller and a bit more of a muscular build towered slightly above Haru. His short, chestnut, brown hair gave off sort of a slick sheen in the sunlight and his silver color eyes nearly hypnotized Haru into a trance. His hands were in the pockets of his baggy, white pants while two belts crossing over one another hung around his hips, a sleeveless blue top with intricate designs imprinted on the front and back adorned his chest, and black, leather boots covered his feet.
“Hey Haru, why was the mayor so prissy at you? Did you break something?†he asked curiously while cocking his head to the side.
Haru shook his head, “I didn’t do anything Sylvan. But he always seems to have something against and I don’t know why…†he replied with a slight tone of sadness in his voice as he stared at the stone ground.
Sylvan pulled out his right, glove, covered hand and set it down on Haru’s shoulder and gave him a reassuring smile.
“Don’t worry, this will all be forgotten tomorrow and I highly doubt that’s the case,†he spoke softly to his best friend. With that he than ruffled Haru’s hair and chuckled, “Anyways, I was actually looking for you because my dad wanted to know if you wanted to come over for dinner tonight.â€
At the mention of food, Haru’s ears instantly perked up and he nodded eagerly. “Really? I’d love to. Thanks Sylvan! You’re the best!!â€
A few days passed and mostly everything was back to normal in the village. Many of the adults still quietly gossiped amongst themselves and avoided Haru whenever he passed by. Even some of the village kids that were his friends would kind of shun Haru.
Night came about quickly and most of the children left for home leaving Haru alone at the tree where he usual spent his time with Byako. It was a beautiful, full moon tonight and the sky was clear of all clouds. Almost utter silence engulfed the village until a strong gust of wind shot past Haru making him apprehensive. He had a feeling that something bad was going to happen but stayed put and kept a close eye on the village. After a few minutes, tiredness overcame Haru’s body and he fell asleep onto Byako. In the village, a large shadow appeared streaking in and out of the streets. It stopped at the mayor’s house and emerged from the shadows and took the form of a large bird, a phoenix to be exact. Its glossy red coat of feathers seemed to glimmer in the moonlight and embedded in its forehead was an ancient symbol. The legendary bird spread its elegant wings out and exerted a loud screech and spewed fire from its mouth setting the mayor’s house on fire. A mass of smoke came from the house and screams and the breaking of wood extended throughout the village as people scrambled out of bed and outside to safety, or so they thought. When the phoenix eyed the villagers he spat out more fire from its mouth and burned people to a crisp, but not all of them. Some it would catch with its talons, scooped them up to its beak, and swallow them whole.
“Where is he?!!! Where is the boy?!!!!!†the phoenix cried angrily as it took off to the sky and flew around the village setting houses aflame as it went.
Byako instantly sprang up and stared at what was happening below the hill at the village. He swiped his tail at Haru and attempted to awaken the lad, but it failed. He grew impatient, yowled loudly into his ear, and pounced on the boy forcing him to roll over and land on his back in a not very comfortable manner. Haru immediately awoke confused as to why his companion had rudely interrupted his peaceful sleep, but when he looked to where the massive amount of smoke was arising from and he immediately became apprehensive, grabbed his belongs and broke out into an all out sprint to his home. Upon his arrival with Byako, he could stare in shock at the multiple, burned bodies strewn on the streets and the destruction that lay before him. Just about all the houses were on fire and countless screams pleading for help sounded out from villagers while others tried to hide from the beasts’ view. Haru reached for the wooden sword on his left hip and tried to look for the source of the evil that had brought this upon his home. Sylvan jumped over bodies and broken piece of wood to get to Haru and pulled the child into a hug.
“Thank goodness you’re alright Haru. I thought that bird might have gotten you too,†Sylvan whispered in a slightly relieved tone.
“Yeah, I’m okay but what do you mean by might have gotten you too?†Haru asked confusedly. But looking at Sylvan’s face of sadness and despair, he understood what had happened and hugged his friend tightly with small streaks of tears running down his face.
A loud screech pierced the sky and the phoenix appeared from the dark, clouds of smoke and eyed Haru. “Finally! The one I have been waiting for. Boy, your life will be mine!!!!!†the phoenix cried and flew towards Haru, ready to swallow him whole.
Before the boys had anytime to react, Byako had already sprang into action and tackled them out of the way just before the phoenix was about to eat them. The boys were stunned and were unable to find the will to move. Byako stepped in front of them and a glowing, yellow circle appeared underneath him and engulfed him. Everyone had to cover their eyes from the blinding light. The light died down as quickly as it had appeared and Byako had grown to about the size of the phoenix and gave a loud roar and pounced on the bird.
“Haru, since when……â€
“I don’t know Sylvan. I’ve never seen him like this before….â€
The two beasts struggled and fought against one another while in the process destroying more the village and then disappeared in a heap of flames and smoke. Minutes passed and the noise had quieted down, Haru began to worry when, all of a sudden, the shadow of a figure emerged. Sylvan and Haru eyed it carefully and when the smoke cleared, there stood Byako. Blood tainted his glossy silver fur and many scratches marred his body, and in his mouth was the phoenix’s heart. He weakly limped over to his master, dropped the organ in front of the boy and collapsed. Haru snapped out of his trance and shook the tiger.
“Byako? You okay boy?â€
No answer.
“Byako? Come on this isn’t the time to play dead.â€
Again, there was no answer.
“Please. Wake up,†Haru whispered while hugging Byako’s body. Tears streaked down his face as he buried his head into the dead tiger’s pelt.
Sylvan kneeled beside Haru and rubbed his back and tried to sooth the younger boy’s pain. A small crowd surrounded the trio and was murmuring about what had just happened when the mayor pushed through the crowd and stormed over to Haru and slapped him with all the strength he could muster.
“You!!! This is all your fault!! Our village is destroyed and many villagers are dead!!!!!!! Haru, I hear by exile you from this village!!!†the mayor shouted at the top of his lungs.
“Sir, that’s not fair!! It wasn’t his fault!!†Sylvan shouted back to defend his best friend who just laid their motionless after the slap.
“Really now?? Then explain why the bird went straight after him when it saw him Sylvan!!â€
“I don’t know. But if you’re going to exile him, than exile me as well!!â€
“Fine, it’s your loss. I hear by exile Haru Hitsugaya and Sylvan Takashi from Azurel.†the mayor said. With that the crowd nodded their agreement and Sylvan carried Haru and Byako out of the village. It was nearly sunrise when Sylvan had managed to carry Haru and Byako a few, good miles away from the village. Before they left Sylvan went back to what was left of his house and grabbed some clothes, money and other things they might need on their journey. Haru still carried a saddened expression his face when they buried Byako under a large oak tree, after the burial he had climbed to the top of the tree and began to play the flute he had hand carved long ago. He played an ancient song passed down from generations that was usually heard at funerals and such. Sylvan could only watch as his best friend sunk deeper and deeper into depression. After Sylvan had managed to lure Haru down the tree, they traveled to a village near Mt. Ootori in the north. Upon arriving in the village Sylvan explained their situation to the mayor, leaving out details here and there, and were allowed to stay in the village.
A few days passed and the mayor asked the boys to meet him on the outskirts of town close to the mountain. When they arrived the mayor was already waiting for them at what looked like a shrine and beckoned them over to show them something.
“Boys, this is the shrine of the legendary Hien Ryu that our village has protected. Long ago the Hien Ryu use to reside here but when wars started it occurring and the fighting got worse, it vanished,†the mayor told them while showing them a sort of painting inside the shrine with an alter.
“Scarlet Dragon? I’ve never heard of it before,†Sylvan answered.
“Legend has it that the Hien Ryu was almost taken by the hands of evil when a young boy appeared and slayed the evil one and became its master. The Hien Ryu holds immense power that could destroy us all,†the mayor replied.
“Sir, why are you telling us this?†Haru asked curiously.
Sylvan stared at Haru, it had been the first time he had heard him talk since the death of his beloved tiger companion. But neither the less Sylvan was also curious as to why the mayor would just tell us this out of the blue.
“Haru, was it? I have reason to believe that you are the reincarnation of the young boy in the legend and will slay the evil that chases after the Hien Ryu,â€
“What? How do you know? Sorry, sir, but you have the wrong person. I’m no hero.â€
“No, I am not wrong. Look at this painting carefully; the resemblance you two share is uncanny, no?â€
“Let me see…………..Haru, he’s right. You two look like identical twins.â€
“But Sylvan! I can’t!! I’m no hero and you know it! I can’t save anybody let alone some thing. I couldn’t even protect Byako….and how do we know this isn’t all just made up story anyways??â€
“Oh this is very real. History is repeating. Haven’t you two noticed all the strange things happening lately? Haru, you told me that a large phoenix came after you in your village. Tell me, did it have a symbol like this?†the mayor asked while drawing out a symbol on some paper and showing it to them.
Haru took the drawing and tried to remember that night without having to think about his dead friend. When he thought about it, he remembered what it looked liked and nodded.
“This is the symbol the evil one bore and the creature is a minion of the evil one, just like in the legend. It was probably looking for the legendary hero so he wouldn’t get in the way of the evil one’s attempt to capture the Hien Ryu,†the mayor explained.
Haru tried to find another logical answer but failed. The mayor kneeled down on the floor and pulled away a mat to reveal a trap door and struggled to lift it open. Sylvan assisted and a minute later the door was propped open and the mayor reached down to pull out a leather box and set it in front of Haru.
“Open it,†was all he said.
Haru was hesitant at first but nodded. He lifted the top off and set it aside and pulled the pieces of silk away to reveal a stunning, silver sword with a blood, red hilt and an emerald embedded where the silver and scarlet met. An inscription was carved on the blade that read, ‘Koori Neko.’ Haru gently picked up the blade and held the hilt in one hand and lightly caressed the smooth silver with the fingertips of his other hand.
“Wow, it’s amazing. Why is it called Ice Cat though??†Haru asked while still examining the sword.
Sylvan moved closer to Haru and took a look at the magnificent craftsmanship that was before him. It must have taken a while and a lot of effort and care to make such a fine sword.
“Legend said that with this sword, the hero was able to summon a large cat made of crystal ice and command it to do battle,†the mayor said. “And now, I pass this sword to you Haru. Find the evil one and stop him before it’s too late.â€
Haru nodded and found a sheath for the sword under the rest of the silk and placed the sword in it with care before tying it on his hip next to his wooden sword. The trio all stood and exited the shrine and made their way back to the village speaking no more of the matter.
The next day, Haru and Sylvan had packed all their belongings once more and left the village. Before leaving, the mayor told them to head west to a village called Niho.
“I wish you luck on your journey, the fate of our world, is in your hands,†the mayor whispered as he watched the two walk away.
“Hey Sylvan…….â€
“Hm? What is it?â€
“Well……….never mind, it’s not important.â€
Sylvan knew what his best friend was going to say and gently ruffled Haru’s hair. “Don’t worry. I’ll be with you all the way. We’ll find this evil one and put a stop to him.â€
Haru smiled a little and dashed ahead of Sylvan, “Last one there is a rotten egg!!â€
Sylvan let out a small laugh and chased after the younger boy. As the two dashed along the road that would take them to Niho, out of the blue Haru tripped on nothing and fell to the cold, dirt ground. Sylvan whooshed past Haru and continued down the windy trail. A minute passed and Sylvan was pondering as to how Haru hadn’t caught up to him yet. He spun around on his heels and the sight before him made his eyes buldge out. Haru was still on the floor, but no movement erected from his body. Sylvan panicked and sprinted back to Haru, picked him up piggy-back style and ran down the road.
