YOU. MUST. READ/WATCH. YAMI NO MATSUEI. ... Yes every character's heavily cliched and Tsuzuki is the biggest frickin' Gary Stu ever but it's wonderful stuff. And the anime has some good crack moments and continuity problems. XD This source of illegal YouTube content links has it as well as the Fake OVAs. Fake is a good Yaoi/BL series about two American cops one who's bi and one who thinks he's straight. There's gore, guns, drug dealing, women in fluffy coats, and the final volume has two glorious sex scenes and a conclusion to character angst ('HE KILLED MY PARENTS WAAAH' to be slightly specific). :DD So once you get used to the 'odd style' of faces it's very enjoyable if you're looking for BL or Yaoi. The OVAs are an arc of the Manga muddled around a bit with added characters and details changed, but still enjoyable. ;3 Strangely I can't think of other BL/Yaoi series off the top of my head which haven't been mentioned. :{ Hmmm... Manga, Manga... Gravitation's obvious (oh, the OVA of that I watched on YouTube, there's a really funny imaginary bondage scene XD); Eerie Queerie (originally 'Ghost!' but Tokyopop renamed it) is a fun one with many cute boys and perversions, it's only four volumes long and is very funny; Legal/Lawful Drug is always very suggestive, I've only read one volume, but it's the plot that makes me keep an eye out for volume two. That's all I can think of for now, strange how few BL anime I actually watch, but with Manga I've read quite a few. :0

Have you ever gone to boysonboysonfilm.com? They have a lot of reviews for yaoi/slash anime and live action. If you're starting out, it might be a good place to go to see what's out there.

Lawful/Legal Drug has a total of three volumes. All of them are out by TokyoPop. After the third volume, I believe CLAMP discontinued it indefinately, and currently, there hasn't been any talk about picking it back up. I'm upset about that, too. It would have been a great story, had the creators finished it.

It depends. Yaoi usually means officially something which has lots of sex scenes, stuff like 'My Sexual Harrasment' or 'Ai no Kusabi' can be considered as just 'gay porn', since the plots are pretty much set-ups for sex scenes. BL, or Boy's Love, originally called 'Shounen-ai'(young boy-love) a term now meaning something more along the lines of Shouta and pedophillia, is romance between two guys, sometimes with the promise of an eventual build-up to a sex scene in its finale.
Personally I don't like Yaoi as much as BL, since the 'classic' films and such are a bit hardcore or simply in a style I dislike. The only proper Yaoi I can think of are all from a different generation to the BL stuff we get now, which may also explain why it isn't to everyone's taste.

My take on it is- impartiality mainly due to the fact that I have friends that are obsessed with yaoi, as for myself, I don't mind it but neither am I addicted to it given that I'm more of a 'shounen-ai-at-times' person.

^^;; The only problem with classic yaoi is that it has terrible plots.... but, the meaning of 'yaoi' is something about being plotless. yaoi is actually an acronym.. yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi which means "no climax, no punch line, no meaning" ... ^^;;; but I like how hard core yaoi is.... compared with Shounen Ai which is just like, kissing. (man, back when I started which wasn't even that long ago.... like 4 or 5 years? everyone still said Shounen Ai .... >.> isn't boylove as a term really recent?) eeeh so what I like is yaoi with plots. XD XD XD ... hard to find.
Aaaah but of course shows like Kyou Kara Maou that have amazing plots but are open to shounen ai relationships are the best. Cause all good stories should be good just with bl couples rather than the standard hetero XD XD XD ah but I guess that's what fanfiction is for! (lol) ~<3 ^^;;;

Originally the term yaoi was an acronym used to describe Doujinshi where they just said 'him + him = SEX LOL SO HAWT'. X3 Well, literally it was putting two male characters into sexual situations because the writer/artist felt like it, and it didn't necessarily have a plot, other than to set up the situation. So the description does fit quite well, but isn't it meant to mean a mountain with no purpose? No peak, no... I forget the direct translation... @.@ The term has been used so much though that people forget the meaning and label stuff like BL with it. And yeah, BL is a fairly new term, like 'moe', but I find it easier to say and doesn't cause confusion as to what it means.
I do have some issues with BL compared to Yaoi and vice-versa. I like series where you can mess about and make-up non-canon pairings of guys, or where it appears as though everyone's gay (comedy series mostly, or series which take themselves too seriously, therefore making it funny). But when I deliberately want to look for things with some sexual content, I don't like looking at the really explicit stuff, I just... Get fustrated by it. Either it's just a kiss and that's it, or it's just sex sex sex! DX May be that's why I prefer TeniPuri Doujinshi because they do an even mix and it's easier to find ones with just touchy-feely make-out scenes online.
... May be I'm just immature...? D:

Saro: I don't think so! XD It's true, either it's kiss or all the way. I like stories that have lots of story and go all over the place and they don't have limitations but they aren't just about sex. Aaaah but fun series like tenipuri and kyou kara maou are always lovely <3 <3 <3 ^__^

Hmm, I always associated boy's love with the BL games, not so much the categories of Yaoi or shounen ai. Because both of them are boy's love ne? Just varying degrees of how much of that love is showed in the content XD Yeah but for yaoi/shounen ai manga, the good ones are all the long long ones (many volumes, many chapters usually more than 2). Oneshots are just the really, how to put it...argue, regret, kiss, have sex kind of manga. XD
The only problem is to find the good ones you have to really read a bunch of it and sort through it all. I've read a lot of the original stuff (although there are only a few I know by name, because they're quick to read sometimes...and then the long ones I tend to remember since they usually are good), seen almost everything yaoi/shounen ai related in terms of anime, played a few games (Take too long to finish ~___~)...but still have to catch up on doujinshi. XD
But boysonboysonfilm is a good place to see what there is to see...

......Wow.
Am I the only one here that has a very, very simple train of thought? Yaoi = Boy x Boy = Boy's Love = BL = BL SHORTER THAN YAOI THEREFORE I WILL USE BL INSTEAD
....and that is my thoughts in a nutshell.
