I don't know if any of you have heard, but Andre Agassi retired after he lost to Ben Becker today.
I know Andre's been playing for almost my entire life and that he was going to retire after the U.S. Open, but still, it's just a really sad thing to see such a great player go.

I KNOW! Why does he have to retire? He's so good in tennis.

The whole affair is rather big news in Germany, since "our" most famous female player (Steffi Graf [really not sure of the spelling]) is happily married to him. On TV, they did a whole extra feature on him... he's been a name in tennis as long as I'm alive! Whoa!
Apparently, he has trouble with his back (back pains was what the announcer said) and decided to end his career before more permanent injuries manifested. Ironically, it's a young German who dropped him out of the U.S. Open... someone called Ben Becker. Those of you following tennis might remember a German player named Boris Becker (who retired a few years ago), an "eternal rival" of Agassi's. Fate's a strange creature...
Anyway, I'm rather sad to see Agassi go- I still remember listening to reports about his and Becker's matches on the radio on my way back from school.

They did a tribute featuring some of his most memorable matches on American tv today. And then they replayed the last set of his and Ben Becker's match today, along with the eight minute standing ovation, in which I cried.
Ben Becker didn't get much farther today as Andy Roddick defeated him. Personally, I agree that Becker was probably pretty worn out from yesterday's match against Andre. That was a very emotional match for everyone, not to mention the length of it.

it's still really hard to believe that Agassi is leaving. such a great player leaving. (and right when I was getting into tennis tournaments too) Well, one day Roger Federer will leave, and so will Nadal and Roddick and etc... then better players may evolve. but I shouldn't start rambling. xD

Don't even dare speak of Nadal leaving! That will be the day my heart just shatters into a million pieces.
Hmm, who are you guys rooting for? Just out of curiousity.

Nadal, of course~
1. because he's a lefty (though not a natural one) like me and 2. because he beat Federer in the French Open.
xDD
GOOOO NADALLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-cough-

YEAH!
I have to deal with Federer fans all day and it gets to be kind of annoying listening to them bash Nadal. It's not that I don't like Federer. In fact, I think he's a great player. But I just like Nadal so much better.
NADAL ALL THE WAY!!!!

I'm rooting for Nadal as well. Go! Go! His match against Federer in the French Open was a good one, methinks

That was my favorite match of the year.
Is it too much to hope for it to be #1 vs. #2 again for the final round?

Well, Nadal's out. Some Russian guy I never heard of beat him. The man seems to have issues beating people who aren't seeded.
I'm glad I got to see Agesi's final match, and especially his match against Blake last year.
As for who I was rooting for. Personally I like Blake. The man has legs of a demon, it's impressive how fast he can move and for how long.
though I do feel bad for him in that he has a lot of pressure on his shoulders seeing as many are expecting him to become the new Andre Aggasi.

I didn't know people wanted Blake to be the new Agassi. Blake got eliminated in the round against federe, do you think that Federer and that Russian unraked person will face off?

You have no idea how sad I am to see Nadal out. And I think the Russian guy's name is Davydenko but I'm not sure. I haven't really been paying attention to his games. And if you guys are talking about him, well, he's a ranked player.
Did anyone catch the womens Semi-finals today? Or at least the score the the Sharapova match. Bagel, 4-6, Bagel for the win. Women's Top few will definitely be changing a little after tomorrow's final match.
