Well, Saro said Jirou and I was in Hyoutei mode so I immediatly thought Choutarou. But Niou works too.

Well, that drawing made him fugly. ...He has hot eyes in that other image. They seem to bore a hole in your soul like that...
What is that creature over there? It looks like a black Eastern Dragon to me...

Dragon of some sort. Most people dismiss Akagi and Kaiji because they look like this: The fanart is good and plentiful, the stories and characters are great - if you can't get around a few basic shapes and joke about noses then it does say something about your choice in animu. Kaiji is a little easier to watch style-wise though, it's a bit toned down. Kaiji ED is some classy shizz', yo

if you can't get around a few basic shapes and joke about noses then it does say something about your choice in animu. Certainly does about mine... >.> I don't like that style. But I have to say that in that video I didn't like the nose, but the chin looked nice. For me that style is a bit too... American cartoony. For some reason. It reminds me of Transformers: Animated (I HATE THAT ABOMINATION).

I don't like the style either but I love the series and the characters. I can overlook a few things to enjoy the story, however there are other series, that to other anime fans are standard fare, where I can't stand the look of it and won't watch it.
There's definitely something appealing in Akagi and Kaiji that goes beyond the style, or somehow makes the style seem like a pleasant quirk. It's far from what the industry calls 'moe' (see Lucky Star for example) but hundreds of Kaiji fans run about shouting 'KAIJI IS MOOEE~~'

Hey! Akagi! I saw a little bit of that back when I first looked up Mahjong. The art did burn my eyes, but I'd be willing to give it another shot.
Saro-san, please don't give me more anime to add to my watch list. ;_; I just finished Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and now I've got to move on to ZSZS and Gurren Lagan (sp?). Not to mention a whole bunch of other stuff.

XD! Oh Lovux-sama, I lov-ux you! You have no idea how hard I just laughed hearing that. That's the best version ever, but my dog disagrees with me. (It scared her a bit, she's hiding under my chair. XD)
